Abstract

Introduction: Medication Compliance plays an important role in the health of patients with asthma. The present study was conducted to investigate medication compliance in asthmatic patients referring to allergy and asthma clinic in educational hospitals in Ahvaz in 1394.

Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study that was conducted on asthmatic patients referring to allergy and asthma clinic in educational hospitals in Ahvaz, 74 patients were randomly selected. Data collection tool was the researcher-made questionnaire of medication compliance.  Content validity of the questionnaire was confirmed. Cronbach's alpha was applied to determine reliability. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS software and statistical test of chi- square.

Results: This study showed that 40 people of participants were men and 34 were women and the average age was 41+16.4 years. On average, duration of asthma was 8.4 + 8.8 years. The results showed that the majority of the participants (67.5%) had relatively good medication compliance. The findings showed that there was no significant statistical relationship between some variables and medication compliance. Also, there was no significant statistical relationship between age, gender, residence, educational and marital status with medication compliance.

Discussion and Conclusion: The results showed that medication compliance of the majority of participants was at average level. So, the current study suggests that educational programs are needed for improving medication compliance in asthmatic patients.
